KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Keynote Speaker: Barb Giamanco, CEO, Talent Builders

Program Title:  Diversity in the Workplace

Description:

Re:Focus on Careers – October 2007 Presentation - Diversity Does Matter!

In celebration of National Diversity Month in October, we are pleased to welcome Barbara Giamanco, CEO of Talent Builders, as our next guest speaker. As the dramatic shift to a highly diverse workplace continues, organizations know they must help employees understand, accept, and capitalize on differences, because a discussion of diversity is bigger than just a focus on gender or the color of our skin. More and more, companies know that cultural backgrounds and the unique experiences of diverse employees and customers can enrich the organization, making it more innovative and globally competitive.

Too often when considering the issue of diversity, the focus on “what separates us” defines the discussion. Instead, Barb believes that it is time to shift the dialog to a discussion of what unities us. It is time to appreciate and respect the differences and the similarities that we all share. Diversity is as much about the diversity of thought and perspective, as it is our gender, religious beliefs or the color of our skin. Each of us brings a unique perspective of the world into the workplace through our cultural backgrounds and experiences.  Now is the time to realize that we each have the power to create a better world by reaching out and building connections with people we usually don’t have the opportunity to know. Now is the time to include everyone, remembering that in work and in life – Diversity Does Matter!

******************************************************************************
To learn more about your own view of diversity, Talent Builders is offering a discounted price on their popular Discovering Diversity Profile to everyone who attends the October meeting. Normally $31.00 each, Re:Focus on Careers attendees can purchase the profile in the week following the event for $26.00.

An important tool for career development, the Discovering Diversity Profile helps people (confidentially) explore their own viewpoints on workforce diversity in four key areas:

• Examine what they know about differences and learn where the information comes from.
• Learn how willing they are to put themselves in a position to feel what others may be feeling.
• Assess how patient and respectful they are of diverse behaviors and backgrounds.
• Gain insight into how they act out their attitudes toward others.

Once people identify their current attitudes about workforce diversity, the Discovering Diversity Profile helps them understand how their viewpoints and behaviors affect others.
